The History of the Pavilion on the Park

A timeline of all the major events that have brought us to where we are today

November 1962

Eastleigh Youth Trust was constituted as a Charity, founded by Cllr Godfrey Olson.


June 1966

The Nightingale Centre was opened by HRH The Princess Margaret.


April 2008

The Pavilion on the Park was opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester.


April 2010

Hampshire County Council Day Services joined us and relocated to Pavilion on the Park.


January 2011

We launched our inclusive adapted cycling project Cycles4all for children and adults with disabilities.


March 2012

Debbie Parnell, one of our Cycles4all volunteers, received the Volunteer of the Year Award at Hampshire’s Sports Awards. Debbie went on to manage Cycles4all and now manages our Blackbird Café.


July 2012

Daisy Robinson, our Community Development Manager, ran in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay after being nominated for her community work. She was also sirconded to the Paralympics as Games Maker in September 2012. Daisy has gone on to become the charities Executive Director.


November 2013

We opened our new multi-sensory space Sensory4all for babies, children, and adults with disabilities.


January 2014

The charity widened its aims to become Eastleigh Youth & Community Trust.


July 2014

Our 4All Hangar was opened by the Mayor of Eastleigh, Cllr Tony Noyce, built with a £50,000 grant from Southampton Airport. Cycles4all moved out of their shipping container home and into the Hangar.


November 2015

The 4th Eastleigh Scouts moved into our new Nightingale Annexe at Pavilion on the Park.


November 2015

Our new Blackbird Café opens its doors to the public.


February 2016

The Nightingale Annexe was opened by Nigel Atkinson Esq. HM Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire after a £750,000 investment.


September 2016

We were honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities.


January 2017

We were awarded runner-up for the AWCA Inclusion & Diversity Award.


February 2017

Our Cycles4all project received the award for Project of the Year at Eastleigh’s Sports Awards.


May 2017

Our long-standing Trustee and ex-Chairman Jim Vaughan will be receiving Eastleigh’s Citizen of Honour award for his work in the community. Jim was Chairman of the charity from 1993 to 2016, and was awarded MBE in 2001.
