Project Coordinator Chazz introduces an exciting new activity aimed at supporting people to move in ways that suit them!

MEET AND MOVE

Thursdays, 1pm-3pm – £3 per person

(Made possible with funding from The People’s Health Trust)

Our newest activity at Pavilion on the Park has been created to encourage people to be active, and make connections through easy-paced movement-based activities. We understand that some of our local community may need a little encouragement to get moving at a pace that suits them. We also recognise the need for somewhere to go to enjoy some company. Meet and move is the perfect opportunity to meet more people and try out new activities together, from ping pong to badminton – anything you fancy.

To get the activity off to a flying start, we are offering a FREE taster session on THURSDAY 2 MAY so people can drop in and give it a try.

If you’re feeling a little nervous, or not sure its for you, check out our FAQs to find out a little more…

Where is the activity held?

In the Kingfisher Hall at Pavilion on the Park, SO50 9LH

Who is this activity for?

Anyone who wants to meet new people and be active at their own pace without any pressure, expectations, or judgement.

Who will be leading this session? Can I know more about them?

Our Project Facilitator Vivi will be in the session with you, and will be on hand to help and join in if you would like them to. They are qualified as a personal trainer and a fitness instructor, and have experience leading sessions for every level of fitness, both competitive and casual. In their spare time they like learning in any way they can, from history and science to arts and design.

Also, our Project Coordinator and inclusion lead Chazz, will be on hand from time to time to take part and to make you feel welcome. Chazz has 18 years’ experience working with people and loves to chat and share stories. She has a Diploma in Health and Social Care and is First Aid trained. In her spare time, she likes to try and live outside her comfort zone and has ran the London Marathon, completed a sky dive and loves the opportunity to wear fancy dress.

Is there anywhere to park?

Yes, we have a car park outside the Pavilion on the Park and is FREE to use.

Can I reach you by public transport?

Catch the number 2 bus to Spencer Road and walk towards Fleming Park. Once there, follow the cycles path to a small bridge. Once crossed, you will see our community centre.

When I arrive, what do I do?

Enter the reception area, where you will be warmly greeted by one of our project team members. You will be asked ‘if you would like any help?’, tell them you are here for ‘Meet and Move’, pay your £3, and they will show you where to go. Usually, this will be in our Kingfisher Hall.

I can be quite nervous, can I still come?

Absolutely, we would love to welcome you. Our mission is to bring people together to lead active and flourishing lives. We design these activities so people can come and meet new people and have fun in the process. We are more than happy to meet you outside the building so we can walk in together. We’re a friendly bunch and would want your visit to be a happy one where you feel comfortable.

I am not very mobile, is this session suitable for me?

Yes! This session is led by you, and the stations and activities will be designed for all abilities and access needs. You don’t have to be the next famous athlete to take part. Everyone is welcome!

Do I need to be active for the whole session?

Not if you don’t want to. You can choose how much you would like to do, and if you want to stop or rest, then you are more than welcome to. There will be plenty of places to sit down and take a breath.

How much will it cost?

Just £3 per session, and if you would like a caregiver to come with you, then they attend for FREE. You pay as you go with no financial commitment or subscriptions. You can join us, if you want and when you want.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash and card payments.

Do I need to pre-book?

There’s no need to pre-book. Just come along on the day.

What do I wear?

Comfy clothes and shoes, which you are able to move in. No special kit is required.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

You can bring any sports equipment if you wish to (e.g. rackets, etc), or you can use ours, as we provide all the equipment you may need for your session (free of charge). You may want to bring a refillable water bottle, or you can use the cups we provide.

What should I expect from the session?

There will be different stations with different activities to try. You can choose which stations you would like to go to. You can stay at each station for as long, or as little as you would like, and you can go to as many or as few stations as you want to.

What activities will be at the stations?

Badminton, ping pong, Cycles4all (outside), ball sports and obstacle courses. [If you have any other sports or movement-based activities you would like to try, please do let us know, we would love to give them a go.]

Are there drinks available?

Yes, there will be FREE tea, coffee, squash, and water. These will be set up on the tea trolley, and you help yourself. There will be chairs and tables to sit at.

Will there be any food available?

If you become peckish, we have an onsite café (Blackbird café) you can visit.

If I have any more questions, am I able to contact someone?
